Constructing a timeless website mirroring the unmatched style of Frank Lloyd Wright

FLWBC is the leading non-profit responsible for the preservation and maintenance of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. They came to us with the task of a major website overhaul, needing to showcase the properties, the people and the education components online.

  • Challenge

To update their outdated website, and provide a better user experience to provide users with clear information, building locations, and events through out the year.

  • Solution

To create a beautiful, clean, modern website that is easily digestible while showing the work of Frank Lloyd Wright highlighting the different styles with the use of photography, textures, and typography.

  • Results

A modern spin on a classic brand that provides interaction, engagement and information distribution via a automated platform.

Extending The Brand

Starting with only a logo and a typeface we were challenged with reinventing the entire brand. We were able to take inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright architecture to extend the brand through unique grid elements that matched the complexity of the buildings.

Focusing heavily on the use of earth tone colors paired with modern typography using different weights to create a modern, professional style that was carried throughout the site.

Design & Development

Having near complete creative freedom allowed us to execute a highly interactive design. From a toggling homepage to heavy use of photography to a map view with 400 Wright Buildings we were able to design unique layouts that catered specifically to the content at hand.

Buildings Listed & Filterable

Seeing and learning about the conservancy buildings was paramount to the site’s existence. This component alone helped to add imagery to something previously abstract. We created the ability to filter buildings by state, time period, category, building name or even status (ability for Overnight Stays, Public Site and for sale).

Engaging User Experience

Everything about the UX of the FLWBC site calls for you to engage with it. From the swiping home screen, left to right, to the Wright Chat signup that grants you access to converse with other Frank Lloyd Wright enthusiasts, meticulous content planning and wireframing went into the final product.

Custom Location Map

FLWBC had hundreds of properties across multiple time zones with differing viewing options. We built a map search that allowed for choosing properties that had overnight stays, were open to the public or were actually on the market for sale. Each of these properties had a dedicated page with imagery, description and other key attributes.

On top of it all we designed and developed a toggle search view that let you go from list viewing of properties to actually seeing them on a map.

Moving Wright Along

The result is a content-deep site that allows for a donor, a potential donor or even a Frank Lloyd Wright aficionado to become informed and take action.
